YAF VOCATIONAL TRAININGS HELPING YOUTH TO BE EMPLOYED

One of the programs of YAF is vocational skills trainings. This has really changed lives of young people as some are able to start their own businesses, some are able to secure employment because of the certificates they received from TEVETA and some are upgrading their education to get advanced diplomas and degrees. One of our student works at ESCOM. UPDATE ON DRAGON DEN PROJECT.

YAF implemented a dragon den project targeting women running small scale businesses. At least 60 women were registered and trained in business skills and life skills. They then developed their own businesses plans which they pitched to the team of independent judges nicknamed dragons. 12 individual businesses and 2 group businesses received topup grants while the rest were signed posted for future opportunities. Pictures shows some of the beneficiaries at their businesses captured during monitoring. It was interesting to see that their businesses were growing and expanding up to the extent that others opened new businesses for their family relatives.

Your support can help us to reach out to more beneficiaries as we can’t reach all of the women we train due to limited resources. One of the beneficiaries at her businessA beneficiary at her business

Laying the Foundation: Why Skills Training Matters for Malawi’s Youth

Building More Than Just Skills

At Young Achievers Skills Development Foundation (YAF), we believe that every young person deserves the chance to build a better future — not just through theory, but through practical, hands-on skills that solve real-world problems.

In communities where formal employment is scarce, vocational training offers a path to independence. Whether it’s carpentry, tailoring, ICT, or agribusiness, every skill learned is a tool for opportunity, growth, and dignity.

Our journey began with a simple goal:

To improve access to high-quality vocational training that meets the real needs of both industry and community.

And that’s exactly what we’re doing.

🌱 Growing Impact

Since launching our initial programs, we’ve seen remarkable transformations:

  • Youth who once felt hopeless now run their own micro-enterprises.

  • Parents returning to education to gain trade skills and support their families.

  • Community groups stepping forward to mentor and empower others.

These stories are why we do what we do.
