Who We are

Young Achievers Skills Development Foundation (YAF)

At Young Achievers Skills Development Foundation (YAF), we believe in the power of skills, opportunity, and community. We are a non-profit, youth-led organization committed to empowering young people — especially the disadvantaged and marginalized — by equipping them with market-relevant vocational skills that open doors to employment, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance.

YAF was Founded by  Yamikani Chunga on the values of equity, innovation, and inclusion, YAF was established  as a response to the growing need for practical, hands-on training opportunities that reflect the realities of both local industries and community life in Malawi. We recognize that many young people possess untapped potential — and that given the right training and support, they can become builders of businesses, leaders of change, and architects of their own future.

🎯 Our Mission

To provide market-relevant vocational skills training programs that help our trainees become employed or start their own businesses.

Our mission is to break the cycle of poverty by bridging the skills gap in Malawi’s youth. We design training programs that not only respond to current labor market demands but also empower trainees with entrepreneurial thinking, life skills, and mentorship that lasts beyond graduation.

🌟 Our Vision

To improve access to high-quality vocational training programs tailored to the needs of the industry and the wider community.

We envision a Malawi where every young person — regardless of their background — has access to the tools, resources, and skills necessary to thrive in a changing world. Through our programs, we aim to create a generation of capable, confident, and self-reliant youth who are driving local and national development.

💡 Our Values

At YAF, we are guided by a set of core values that shape every aspect of our work:

  • Integrity: We operate with honesty, transparency, and accountability.

  • Equity: We promote inclusive access to all, regardless of gender, background, or status.

  • Innovation: We continuously seek better ways to deliver skills and support.

  • Partnership: We collaborate with communities, institutions, and industry.

  • Excellence: We strive for the highest standards in our training and services.

  • Transparency: We uphold openness and trust with our stakeholders.

🛠️ What We Do

YAF runs a variety of hands-on, community-centered programs designed to meet the practical and social needs of youth across Malawi. Our work includes:

1. Vocational and Entrepreneurial Training

From carpentry and tailoring to ICT and agribusiness, we offer vocational training programs that are rooted in both local tradition and modern market trends.

2. Civic Education and Career Development

We equip youth with civic knowledge, leadership skills, and career guidance to help them engage meaningfully in society and navigate their career paths.

3. Youth Engagement and Community Outreach

Our youth forums, mentorship initiatives, and community campaigns foster inclusion, awareness, and local participation in development.

4. Counseling and Psycho-social Support

Recognizing the emotional and mental barriers many youth face, we provide individual and group counseling, life coaching, and personal development support.

5. Research, Advocacy, and Capacity Building

We work to influence national youth policies through data-driven advocacy and enhance the capacity of local institutions to serve their communities better.
